Australian Summer Christmas: Blue-and-White Beneath a Gum Tree

A Dreamy Australian Summer Interpretation of a White Christmas.

Here at Australian Country House, we still dream of a white Christmas — but living in the warmth of an Australian summer invites its own kind of magic. So for our 2025 annual Christmas tablescape, we created our own interpretation: a celebration that gently nods to the northern traditions we adore, while embracing the sun-washed, unmistakable spirit of an Australian Christmas.

Set beneath a majestic gum in our home garden, this year’s table styling was one of our favourites yet. We partnered with a beautiful mix of makers and brands, large and small, to bring you a special Christmas tablescape designed for slow evenings outdoors, shared drinks in hand, and the soft hum of summer all around.

A Table Inspired by Water, Light, and Ease

When working on this year’s concept, Georgie and I found ourselves drawn to the idea of water — that effortless sense of calm and clarity that feels so at home in an Australian Christmas. So many of our holidays are spent by the sea, beside a river, or around a pool. That feeling became the backdrop for everything: cool blue hues, sage tones, and a base of crisp white that kept everything fresh, elegant, and serene.

Our brief to ourselves was simple:

Elegant. Effortless. Anchored in white, touched with blue and sage, and grounded in a feeling of peaceful summer evenings.

Silk-soft flax linen, handmade ceramics, gentle candlelight, and a hint of coastal nostalgia came together to create a table that feels both refined and relaxed — the kind of table where the afternoon lingers and the conversation never feels rushed.

If the weather is kind this year, we hope this inspires you to take your Christmas celebrations outside too.

Mrs Baker's Still House

"Family owned, family run. A close-knit mother-daughter-daughter team leads Mrs Baker's Still House.  Elizabeth the distiller, Jane the botanist, and Georgette the designer.   The distillery is located at Glenpatrick in the Pyrenees Ranges.  Many of the gin botanicals are grown on the farm. The Baker family moved from inner-city Melbourne over 20 years ago to establish a vineyard in the famous Pyrenees wine region.  After a number of successful vintages, the Baker's turned their hand to distilling, and that is when Mrs Baker's Still House started in 2016." – Visit their site here.
